Can I count hours post graduation before I receive my associate number? (BBS MFT)
Per the BBS:
Applicants for Associate registration may count hours obtained post-degree but before issuance of an Associate registration number ONLY if the applicant applies for Associate registration within 90 days of the qualifying degree conferral date. The Board grants no exceptions. Statutes and Regulations cited: B&P Code Section 4980.43
Note: Prior to beginning employment in a private practice setting, you'll want to register with the BBS, as prior to becoming a Registered Associate you cannot work in a private practice setting.
Reporting pre-degree and post-degree hours (BBS MFT)
Track Your Hours automatically separates your pre-degree and post-degree hours when you generate your forms to ensure you meet the expectations of the BBS. Per the BBS:
The Board encourages MFT Trainees and Associates to keep pre-degree and post-degree hours on separate Experience Verification forms. The Board also strongly encourages MFT Trainees and Associates to close out all hours on their Experience Verification forms and Weekly Log Sheets through 12/31/2009 and start with the new forms on 1/1/2010. Please see the new forms for hours gained on or after 1/1/2010 on the Board’s Web site. Although not required by law, but doing so may decrease the processing time for applications.
