*Under the new experience requirement couples/family hours are not double counted by the BBS. If you submit your application prior to Jan 1, 2021 and request to be evaluated under the old (pre 2016) requirements the BBS will double count the first 150 hours in this category. If you submit your application on or after Jan 1, 2021 the hours will not be double counted.
What are conjoint couples and family hours? (California MFT)
The BBS provides an incentive for gaining experience treating couples and families by applying a 2:1 multiplier to these hours. Both pre- and post-degree you are allowed to “double-count” up to 150 hours of treatment of couples and families. If you log 150 hours with couples and families, they will be counted as 300 hours when your hours are submitted for review.
Logging your conjoint couples and family hours in TrackYourHours
Consistent with the BBS forms, the conjoint couples and family hours are a subset of your Couples, Families and Children category. To enter the hours in TrackYourHours:
1. Enter the total number of couples, families and children hours you logged in the Couples, Families and Children category. For example, if you logged 4 hours with couples, 3 hours with families and 2 hours with children, you would enter 9 in the Couples, Families and Children category.
2. Next, enter the number of Couples and Families hours in the the next row in the form. From the example above, you would enter 7, because of the 9 hours you are logging, 7 should be counted as conjoint couples and family incentive (4 hours with couples + 3 hours with families). The hours you enter as conjoint incentive will not increase your recorded hours. You are simply indicating which hours within your Couples, Families and Children category should be counted as conjoint couples and family so the BBS can apply the 2:1 multiplier when they review your hours.
How are conjoint couples and family hours reported in TrackYourHours?
The conjoint couples and family hours you enter will not increase your recorded total of hours but they will be reflected in your valid total so you can see how many hours you have earned after applying the 2:1 multiplier. In the previous example the Recorded total would increase by 12 (actual hours entered) and the Valid total would increase by 19 (12 + 7 conjoint incentive hours double counted). *The hours are only double counted in your Dashboard Pre 2021 totals. The hours are not double counted in your Dashboard 2021 Forward totals.*
The BBS does not want the conjoint couples and family hours double counted in the total calculation for each week. So even though conjoint couples and family hours gained in a particular week are included in the details for that week, they are not included in the total calculation for the week. The BBS wants you to report your hours and indicate which are conjoint couples and family so they can apply the 2:1 multiplier when they review your hours. TrackYourHours has been designed to report the hours consistent with the expectations of the BBS.

This is confusing.... If I see 2 couples for 2 hrs each what is it suppose to look like? 4:2 or 4:4?
If you spend 4 hours doing couples therapy you would enter 4 hours of CFC on the first line and 4 hours of conjoint on the second line.
From the title of the article, I was hoping to read a definition of "conjoint" to distinguish conjoint CFC hours from non-conjoint CFC hours. Adding a definition would be most helpful. Thank you!
The general definition of conjoint couples therapy is just couples therapy (a therapist seeing two people who are a couple during the same session).
So on Trackyourhours the double hours won't count in the weekly total, but will count in the overall hours calculated on the site?
Correct. Conjoint couples and family hours (up to the max) are double counted in your valid total so you know how many hours you can actually claim. The hours are not doubled counted on weekly logs or experience verification forms per BBS guidelines. Below is an FAQ from the BBS that explains this topic.
So, just to be clear; the total sum of "valid" hours that I see on the Track Your Hours summary report is strictly for the intern or trainee's tracking information. When printed out on the experience verification form those hours don't show up but the BBS adds them in. We just know we've got the required hours because of the "valid" count. Correct?
Correct. The valid total includes the double counting of the conjoint couples and family hours so you know how many you can claim. The hours are not double counted on your forms because the BBS wants to do it.

So can I count 1 person seeing me for 1 hour (for their marriage issues) as couples therapy just not conjoint? If not then when is couples therapy not conjoint?
If you are seeing 1 client the hours should be logged as individual counseling, not CFC. .
It says I have 50 hours of CFC hours logged on the "Option 2 Dashboard" and it says that I have "50 Valid hours." According to the explanation above, it should say I have 100 valid CFC hours. What's wrong here? Why isn't it updating my valid hours according to the double count, pre 2021 rules? I'm definitely looking at the Option 2 Dashboard.
